THE SMALL PRINT
for those wishing to participate in The Pirates of Penzance.
It is important that you and your parents/guardians read this section.
Anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 is welcome.
This is our first year of independent productions and we don’t yet know quite how many people will turn up to audition! One of the great strengths of Pamela’s way of working is her belief that every young person has a valuable contribution to make and she does not wish to turn anyone away.
If we are overwhelmed by numbers, we may (for safety reasons) need either to a) split the chorus so that some members perform on only one of the days and/or b) have a separate series of drama workshops and rehearsals for an additional concert to be held at the Art Theatre on the afternoon of Saturday 1st August.
Performance Licences
If you are under school-leaving age and have performed for more than 4 days in the 6 month period before 31st July, you will need a performance licence from your local education authority where you normally live. It can take up to 21 days for councils to issue licences, so if you think this may apply to you, it makes sense to register early so that we can get the ball rolling!
If you wait until audition day to register and need to obtain a performance licence, it may not be possible to obtain one in time. We will do everything we can to help, but if the licence does not come in time then you will not be able to take part in the performances. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this so please register well in advance of the audition day if you can, especially if you think you will need a licence. If you have any queries about this please contact us.
Casting
Pamela Bilik will make all casting decisions on the day of audition.
The Registration Form
Please make sure that that you complete the form as fully as you can. You can submit the form on-line to pre-register but please also print off a completed form and ask a parent or guardian to sign it and take it with you to audition. If you prefer, you can print it off and send it (signed) in advance to Helen Grady, PB Theatricals, 18 Long Lane, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak SK23 0TF. If you have any questions about filling it in, you can contact us. All those who pre-register will receive an acknowledgement from PB Theatricals.
We will not pass on any information on this form to anyone outside this organisation without your express permission.
Responsibility of Parents/Guardians
There will be CRB checked chaperones to look after cast members during rehearsals and performances and we will keep a register to ensure that we know who is at each rehearsal. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that their children are able to get to and from rehearsals safely (and promptly!). Please check that you have filled in the section about whether you are happy for your child to make his or her own way to and from rehearsals and performances.
Photographs and Videos
We hope to be able to take some photographs of rehearsals and we may be able to arrange for performances to be filmed. We would not use any such material in any publicity without your express permission. Please ensure you state on the registration form whether you give your consent for your child to be photographed during rehearsal and performance.
Special Needs
If a participant has special needs of any kind, please do let us know. We will do everything we can to facilitate his or her involvement and enjoyment. It will help us if we know in advance if someone has mobility problems, for example.
Costumes
Information about costumes is contained in our April Newsletter.
Information about Rehearsal Venue(s) and Art Theatre
Details about rehearsal venues (facilities and location) and information about the performance venue will be sent to all those who register.
Booking Tickets
We plan to have an on-line box office system available in 2009. Tickets will be £10 full price and £8 concessions.
Rehearsal Schedule
A rehearsal schedule will be issued on the audition day.
Sponsorship and Donations
There will be no charge to participants. This is an essential part of the ethos of our organisation, to encourage participation from everyone interested, whatever his or her background. However, despite the immense amount of work and effort freely given by volunteers in support of this event, there are many costs to cover. We would therefore be very pleased to accept a voluntary contribution from each participant. A suggested amount is £10 per person, but of course if you are able and willing to give more it will be gratefully received!
